We purchased this because we loved the duplo steam train set and wanted to expand the track and have a second train. And thought the coding part would be great because my children are familiar with coding. My toddlers did not enjoy the app at all for this. As a parent I found the app completely useless and unnecessary you can play and educate with this set much better without the app. We would rather be able to build both trains at the same time and all of the builds on the cards instead of the ability to use this app. The cost of this set was not worth it at all. I wish I would have purchased a second steam train set and some pick a brick parts instead of this set. We usually love what lego does with duplo. This was a disappointment more than anything.

The elements of this set are excellent as usual, but it needs more train cars. I purchased for my 3 year-old nephew, but supplemented it with extra track, bridges, and the other trains (to get the additional cars) since the duplo trains are being retired. This set works best when combined with other duplo sets. That all said, nephew has no complaints and is busy building his train and really likes the ability to switch the train to different tracks.

Needed something to get my toddler’s attention off the ipad and screen in general. This set instantly became his favorite toy and he goes straight to it once he’s back from daycare. He loves the different possibilities and we love that he doesn’t spend his afternoon’s over or in front of a screen. His dexterity and fine-motor skills have improved and he enjoys role playing and creating different scenarios. All in all very happy with the pieces included and the different options to leverage the train’s functionalities - with or without the app!
