The open design has turned out to be awful. Unless you carefully regulate pouring, water cascades over the edges of the spout and even out of the container. For best results, only fill halfway ... which of course means twice the trips between faucet and destination. I would not buy this again, and is now in our pile of things to give it away as it is frustrating every single time I use it. I am going back to using a large plastic cup to water things -- it's more accurate, holds just as much and is easier to maneuver!
